Sam Amos

TrashDollys is the alias of Bristol based filmmaker Sam Amos, whose work is built on movement and shaped by a background in dance.
Inspired by the physicality of Breaking and the world-building photography of Gregory Crewdson, Sam began capturing movement with a JVC recorder. The ability to create something out of nothing, combined with the broad creative palette of film, allowed him to tell stories by combining movement with composition, light, space, and sound.
❝I remember watching a short film as a kid that featured Breaking captured from above in black and white, set to slow classical music. It presented the culture in a completely different light - stripping away the competition and focusing on the form. That shift in perspective is what sparked my interest in filmmaking.❞
In 2014, he formed TrashDollys. The name reflects the duality of his approach: 'Trash' representing the ground-up nature of his process, and 'Dolly' symbolising precision and cinematic fluidity. Today, Sam continues to explore the creative possibilities of filmmaking, placing human physicality at the heart of everything he creates.
